What is yoga?

Yoga is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature and a holistic approach to health and well-being. Yoga is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with ourselves, the world and Nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help us to deal with climate change.

Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.

Yoga is the genuine heritage for our present and future, which has been preserved throughout millennia.  The practice of yoga is a need of everyday life and the future of entire humanity, not restricted by any cultural or geographical limitations. Yoga is neither a religion nor a philosophy, but rather a regular practice for the purpose of perceiving one’s unity with the Truth of the Creator.

Yoga is a life science that helps us to know the self and find concord with the world around us. A consistent yoga practice opens up a path of wisdom and knowledge, allows seeing the unity of the variety of phenomena and brings harmony to one’s life. 

The Universe is in constant transformation, change and movement. All sudden changes in the outer world each time remind one of the instability and fragility of life. Changeability reveals the hopelessness of human efforts to create stability and an oasis of peace in life. Peace is only possible when our internal stability is beyond the influence of any external factors. Then there is nothing that could disturb and influence us or alienate us from the true path or dharma.

Yoga is an art. It is the basis of other arts and of the life itself. Yoga is the highest art. I have to give everything to it. Life is a cleansing fire. If I want to keep it burning, there is no other way in the world, than yoga. There are not many people who know that. Therefore my practice should also be true fire. I overstepped all of its boundaries. I believe that with God's grace, I went the furthest. Absolutely. It is how I have reached the state of peace.

 Just as a flower human life has the potential to bloom and blossom. The unfolding and blossoming of human potential is yoga. The goal of yoga is to stop the suffering even before it appears.

Yoga is the study of life. It is a research of your body, breathing, mind, intellect, memory and ego. It is recognition of your inner skills. When attention is diverted from the sense of the object to its source, then union or yoga happens. When you look at something beautiful, move your attention from the object to the arising sense of beauty in you.

When you feel beauty in each particle of the creation, then it is yoga.

The wave merging with its depth is yoga. To live like an observer is yoga.

Yoga is not physical exercises. Yoga determines your mastery of communication and action in every situation.

Yoga is one of mankind's greatest treasures. It shows people ways and techniques that allow living without stress and tension. Yoga gives you independence, which allows being free from emotions and always feeling the way you want to. Yoga is one of the best ways to promote responsibility.

Yoga is complete life. It is a method which overhauls all the sides of the human personality.

Yoga is a system of integral education, education not only of the body and the mind or the intellect, but also of the inner spirit.

Yoga is the art of right living. The Yogin who has learnt the art of right living is happy, harmonious and peaceful. He is free from tension.

Yoga is a science perfected by ancient seers of India, not of India merely, but of humanity as a whole.

Yoga doesn't want a turning away from life. It demands spiritualisation of life.

Yoga is for all. Yoga is universal. It is purely spiritual and universal. It doesn't contradict any one's sincere faith.

Life today is full of stress and strain, of tension and nervous irritability, of passion and hurry. If man puts into practice a few of the elementary principles of Yoga, he would be far better equipped to cope with his complex existence.
